19. Potsdamer Doktorand*innenforum zur Zeitgeschichte: "Everything Everywhere All at Once? Krisen in der Zeitgeschichte"

The Doctoral Student Forum is an annual academic conference on current topics in contemporary history, which offers young researchers from outside the Leibniz Centre for Contemporary History (ZZF) in Potsdam the opportunity to present and discuss their doctoral projects. ZZF doctoral students are responsible for the thematic conception and organisation of the conferences. The 15-20 minute presentations are commented on by researchers from the ZZF.

The 19th Potsdam Doctoral Forum of the Leibniz Centre for Contemporary History Potsdam (ZZF) is entitled ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once? Crises in Contemporary History’. The question arises as to whether our world is caught up in an unprecedented web of mutually reinforcing crises. The preliminary programme (as of 1 September 2025) can be found below and as a PDF file.

Participants will approach the topic from two historical perspectives: On the one hand, they will examine the phenomenon of ‘polycrise’ – asking which developments have contributed to the current feeling of a crisis-ridden present. On the other hand, the forum will focus on the contemporary historical examination of the problems that give rise to this impression – such as climate change, migration, technology and globalisation.
