The structured doctoral program supports doctoral students on their path to developing their own academic profile. It also provides them with the skills they need for a career beyond academia, for example the acquisition of core competencies for both academic and non-academic career paths. The Graduate Coordinator designs and organizes workshops, discussion groups, method and reading sessions, writing workshops, excursions, career talks and master classes in consultation with the doctoral students.
In the regular doctoral colloquia, which take place during the summer and winter semesters, doctoral students present their dissertation topics and discuss their text contributions in plenary sessions. The annual Doctoral Candidate Forum, a conference organized by the doctoral candidates, promotes the development of their own academic network. Through a cooperation agreement with the Graduate School of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HGS) and the Potsdam Graduate School (PoGS), the ZZF's doctoral students have access to a range of further training courses, for example in the form of events on career orientation or the acquisition of soft skills.
Almost a dozen university lecturers work at the ZZF who can take on the primary and secondary supervision of doctoral students. Depending on their affiliation, this makes it possible to submit a doctorate supervised at the ZZF to various universities. The ZZF cooperates with the University of Potsdam, the Freie Universität Berlin and the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin on doctoral training.
The supervision of doctoral candidates at the Institute is closely aligned with the career guidelines of the Leibniz Association, which can be viewed here.
