Seit den 1970er Jahren hat sich der Finanzsektor zu einem Paradebeispiel für die wirtschaftliche Globalisierung entwickelt, geprägt von der zunehmenden Mobilität internationaler Kapitalströme – vom Eurodollar-Markt über die Wiederverwertung von Petrodollars bis hin zu steigenden Staatsschulden und deren Handel an den Finanzmärkten.
Mit dieser historischen Gemengelage beschäftigte sich die Tagung "An Age of Finance? Money, Government and Society since the 1970s". Zu diesem Anlass kamen nationale und internationale Expert*innen verschiedener Karrierestufen zusammen, um die neuesten Forschungsergebnisse zur Geschichte des Bankwesens und des Wertpapiergeschäfts, zu den öffentlichen Finanzen und zur Steuerpolitik sowie zur Sozialgeschichte der Finanzialisierung vorzustellen.
Organisiert wurde die Tagung von Ralf Ahrens (ZZF Potsdam) / Christian Marx (IfZ Munich); unterstützt wurde sie durch die Fritz Thyssen Stiftung für Wissenschaftsförderung.

Since the 1970s, the financial sector has become a prime example of economic globalisation, characterised by the increasing mobility of international capital flows – from the Eurodollar market and the reinvestment of petrodollars to rising sovereign debt and its trading on the financial markets.
The conference 'An Age of Finance? Money, Government and Society since the 1970s'. The event brought together national and international experts at various stages of their careers to present the latest research findings on the history of banking and the securities trade, public finance and tax policy, as well as the social history of financialisation.
The conference was organised by Ralf Ahrens (ZZF Potsdam) / Christian Marx (IfZ Munich); it was supported by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation for the Promotion of Science.
