Film festival project
The ZZF co-organises the festival
Project management at ZZF: Dr Jutta Braun
The cinematic examination of history remains highly popular and is an important means of analysing social identities and expectations. For this reason, moving history was founded in Potsdam as the first German film festival specialising in history in film. The festival sees itself as a forum for dialogue between audiences, filmmakers, and academics regarding cinematic representations of the past.
Each year, the Clio Award is presented to the creators of the year's best historical film. The moving history festival honours both documentary and fictional films with historical themes from
cinema and television production. The award and the presentation of a shortlist thus reflect the popularity of media images of history that shape our conception of the past and our perception of the present.
The Leibniz Centre for Contemporary History Potsdam (ZZF) co-organises the festival and Jutta Braun is involved in conceiving and selecting the programme as a jury and board member of moving history.
Partners include the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF, the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, the Brandenburg Centre for Media Studies, and the Filmmuseum Potsdam.
