Exhibition Project
Engaging with the history and stories of migration is essential for a thriving democracy. The voices and perspectives of people who have personal experience with migration are especially important. The exhibition on Mihaly "Miša" Moldvay (1938–2024), a Stern photojournalist originally from Yugoslavia, presents his perspective on the migration of laborers to the Federal Republic of Germany. Moldvay arrived in Germany as a "guest worker" in 1962, and his experiences with migration shaped his photographic work. The exhibition features photographs from his photo essays published in the 1970s and 1980s. The pictures shed light on topics that are rarely covered, such as female migration, artistic responses to migration, and the situation of children. Short informational texts and audio clips featuring original quotes provide historical context for the photos and tell the stories behind them. Moldvay’s life story is presented as a graphic novel in a short film by cartoonist Bettina Bexte.
Educational programs are being developed to accompany the exhibition. The project will be implemented in 2026/2027.
