Book project
The promotion of art played not only an artistic but also a socio-political role in the Federal Republic of Germany. This monograph examines the commitment of individual personalities in the transformation of the art and museum scene after 1945/49 and 1989/90. What contribution did art patrons make to overcoming the consequences of National Socialism? What influence did they gain - due to the federal structure of cultural policy - as representatives of a national cultural interest? And what consequences did the boom in public-private partnerships have on the art canon in public museums?
