Digital database: on confiscations and transfer of cultural property from East Germany to the Soviet Union (1944-1948)

The database contains digitized archival documents on the practice of Soviet confiscations of cultural property in East Germany in the aftermath of the Second World War. The documents come from Russian, Ukrainian and German archives. The digitized versions of all archive documents of the research project can be consulted in the library of the ZZF.
More detailed information on the terms of use is available on request from the library (bibliothek [at] zzf-potsdam.de).

The database was developed in a trinational research project by Ukrainian, Russian and German historians. The researchers have identified, described, provided metadata and digitally processed more than 1,200 mostly unknown archival documents from Russian, German and Ukrainian archives. The database, which can be connected for further archival research and an expansion of the data stock, was created in a cooperation project of the Zentrum für Interdisziplinäre Polenstudien der Europa-Universität Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) and the Leibniz-Zentrums für Zeithistorische Forschung Potsdam (ZZF).

Project members of the ZZF: Ole Christian Kröning, Priv.-Doz. Dr. Annette Vowinckel and Lieven Ebeling.
