Socialist father figure in the GDR
PhD project
The doctoral research explores the socialist father figure as a masculine type within and beyond the home in the GDR during late socialism, and the afterlives of some of these ideas beyond reunification. The research is supervised by Professor Celia Donert.
Madeleine Doutney is a doctoral candidate in the History Faculty at the University of Cambridge, funded by an AHRC Open-Oxford-Cambridge DTP studentship. In Autumn 2023 she undertook a visiting fellowship at IfZ-Munich as part of the institute’s cooperation with the DAAD Cambridge Research Hub for German Studies. Her fellowship at the ZZF is supported by a DAAD research grant. During her stay at the ZZF she is Visiting Fellow in Dep. I.
