1 September 2019 marks the 80th anniversary of the German invasion of Poland and the beginning of the Second World War in Europe. Both among the Polish population and among the German soldiers there were many who recorded their experiences and memories – in the form of photos, letters and diary entries. Today, their testimonies are important sources of contemporary historical research and document a criminal war. The aim of the project is to promote public discussion of family biographical testimonies to the Second World War from a German and Polish perspective. To this end, private photos, letters and diaries will be collected. Some of the material will then be digitised, historically classified and made accessible to the public in an online exhibition.
