After the End of the Illusion

What remains of Communism in the twenty-first century?

A series of events with ten dates

Organiser: Zentrum für Zeithistorische Forschung Potsdam (ZZF Potsdam), Centre Marc Bloch, Berlin (CMB), Bundesstiftung zur Aufarbeitung der SED-Diktatur

Twenty-two years ago, the French historian François Furet termed the downfall of Communism the ‘end of the illusion’. One hundred years after the Russian October Revolution, this series of lectures explores the consequences of this illusion for today’s understanding of politics, economics, society and culture.
Starting with a key concept – ‘revolution’, ‘capitalism’, ‘nation’, etc. – each of the ten lectures discusses the long-term impact of this ideology and form of rule, which was so central for the twentieth century.
