Kristin Meißner
Completed research project

As part of the HERA research network „en/counter/points: (re)negotiating belonging through culture and contact in public space and place“ the project analysed urban planning debates on the Berlin city centre after 1989. Specialists, journalists and citizens' initiatives expressed controversial views on the role of public urban space, the reconstruction of the Hohenzollern palace, the historical symbolism of the city centre, and the future of urban society. The project examined the relation between spatial framing, interpretation of the past and societal belonging and aims to outline hegemonial/marginal structures within these debates.

The project was part of the European HERA project "en/counter/points: (re)negotiating belonging through culture and contact in public space and place". The international team of researchers from Great Britain, Poland, Italy, the Netherlands and Germany deals with public spaces as places of negotiating social belonging.
