Termin entfällt leider kurzfristig: Dominik Rigoll: Antisemitism as a Weapon: Global Holocaust Denial, Political Propaganda, and Evil Public History

Europast Research Colloquium
Datum: 27.02.2024
Ort: Online

Termin entfällt leider kurzfristig
Begin: 17:00 CET

ls Holocaust denial evil  public history or simply political propaganda? This  paper argues that the  birth of Holocaust denial was  not  only  the  reaction of  a  small group of  extreme anti-Semites  to  the  murder of  the Jews, but also the continuation  of   nationalist propaganda practices in use since  the  1930s. The propaganda apparatus that gave rise  to  Negationism was  created and  supported by a transnational network of nationalist politicians, businessmen and  other  elites. They used  antisemitism as a weapon directed not  only against Jews, but  also  against the  liberal societies they wanted to destroy.

Dr. Dominik Rigoll is a Research Fellow at the Leibniz-Zentrum für Zeithistorische Forschung (ZZF) in Potsdam, Germany, since  2015. Prior to joining the ZZF he was lecturer at Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, visiting fellow  at Princeton University and  Fernand-Braudei-Fellow at Institut d'histoire du temps present, Paris. His research deals with politics of internal security and social cohesion, nationalism and communism, antinationalism and anticommunism in 19th and  20th century Germany and France.
