Public History

Head of the Public History Department: Dr. Irmgard Zuendorf

The Public History Department coordinates the ZZF's cooperation with universities and institutions of applied history education. This includes close cooperation with local universities and applies in particular to the Master's program in Public History at the Free University in Berlin. In addition, the department carries out cooperation projects with museums and memorial sites as well as with other institutions that strive to communicate history to a broad, historically interested public. Furthermore, the department is the point of contact for the city of Potsdam and the states of Berlin and Brandenburg in all matters relating to memory culture and museumization. The central aim of the department is to support the institute's scientific communication and the dissemination of research results to various target groups. To this end, the Public History Department organises lecture series, panel discussions and workshops.

Public History

Public History deals with the steadily growing social significance of historical representations in the most varied media, distributed by public or private institutions, in culture, economics or politics. Thus, public history is a topic of historical science and didactics.
