Die populäre Musikpraxis in der DDR: die Ausbildungssysteme von Rockmusikern und DJs

Mein Forschungsprojekt am ZZF fokussiert sich auf die Studie über die populäre Musikpraxis in der DDR: die Ausbildungssysteme von Rockmusikern und DJs. Die Studie wird untersuchen, wie das Ausbildungssystem etabliert war und funktioniert hat, und damit aufzeigen, welchen Charakter Ostrock und DDR-Disco hatten und  haben. Ostrock und DDR-Disko stellen insofern ein einzigartiges kulturelles Phänomen dar, da Musiker und DJs in speziellen Schulen oder Kursen ausgebildet wurden, um eine öffentliche Spielerlaubnis („Pappe“) zu erhalten und in öffentlichen Räumen spielen zu dürfen.
Für meine Studie werde ich Archivakten, Interviews und historische Dokumente analysieren, mit dem Ziel, den Entstehungsprozess des Ausbildungssystems aus dessen zeitgeschichtlicher, mediengeschichtlicher und musikwissenschaftlicher Perspektive aufzuzeigen. Die Studie soll die Spezifika der ostdeutschen Populärkultur heraus stellen und ihre Stellung in der Populärkultur der Nachkriegszeit aus historischer Perspektive beleuchten.

Popular music practice in GDR with a special focus on the training system of rock musicians and DJs

My research project at the ZZF focuses on the study of popular music practice in GDR, especially the training of rock musicians and DJs. The study examines how the training system was established and operated, thereby determining what character East rock and GDR disco had and have. Ostrock and DDR-Disko are a unique cultural phenomenon in that musicians and DJs had to take special courses to get a license (Spielerlaubnis: “Pappe”) for public performances.
I will analyze archival files, interviews and historical documents to confirm the formation process of the training system from the contemporary historical, media historical and musicological perspectives. The study will reveal the specificities of East German popular culture and shed light on its position in post-war popular culture from a historical perspective.
