moving history | 2 - Festival of historical films

Project collaborators: Dr. Christoph Classen (ZZF), Dr. Ilka Brombach (moving history)

Theme 2019: "When we were dreaming - revolution, fall of the wall, post-reunification"

Films about historical events and people continue to enjoy great popularity and are therefore an important medium for negotiating social identities and expectations. For this reason "moving history" was founded, the first film festival in Germany to specialize in history in film. It sees itself as a forum where audiences, filmmakers and academics can exchange views on cinematic representations of the past.

30 years after the end of the GDR, the second issue of "moving history" is devoted to the theme "1989/90 - Revolution, Fall of the Wall, Reunification". The film festival will take place from 25-29 September 2019 in Potsdam. The curated retrospective as well as the educational and academic programmes will focus on feature films and documentaries that address this turning point and the subsequent transformation phase. The framework of a larger local event in East Germany not only offers the opportunity to acquire broad knowledge about the GDR, but can also stimulate intergenerational discussion about the past.
