The project develops innovative concepts and digital solutions - firstly for the processing, indexing and archiving of research data and secondly for the presentation of the research results of the BMBF-funded research network "The Media Heritage of the GDR". It focuses on the handling of both historical and newly generated sound and image documents in the research process. In addition, the project is developing a digital publication platform for a handbook on the GDR in film and television productions after 1990. The translation of media artefacts and research practices into the digital world associated with the development, curation and use of digital platforms is one of the subjects of the study. The repercussions of these media practices on the historicization of the GDR will also be discussed. Digital technologies are thus examined not only as tools, but also as actors in the production of historical consciousness and historical narratives.
