Cultural relationship and art exchanges between the GDR and the Global South
PhD project

My project aims at studying the cultural relationship and art exchanges between the GDR and the Global South. With a particular focus on Chile, Cuba, Ethiopia and Mozambique, I consider the partnerships between art schools, the exchanges of art students between the GDR and Global South countries and the cross-exhibitions as part of a "socialist exhibition culture". I am also interested on highlighting the concrete bondings between artists and art students of these countries and of the GDR, which could occur during studies, mutual invitations, inaugurations of expositions and private and official travels.

During my stay at the ZZF, I will visit the Bundesarchiv, the Archiv der Akademie der Künste and the Archiv des Deutschen Historischen Museum."
