Online-Roundtable: Who can (and may) write whose history?

Institutskolloquium
Datum: 28.04.2022
Ort: Online

17:00 Uhr / 5pm (MESZ/CEST)

Online-Roundtable

The debate over who is competent, who should be allowed, and who may write whose history has been an important part of recent shifts in cultural and social norms. It is tightly linked with so-called identity politics as well as questions of de-colonization and de-imperialization. These days not only our historical subjects are under scrutiny, but we as historians as well. The online roundtable will discuss: To what extent is and should history be activism? And what does this mean for the kind of histories we write? Should we as historians be more open in our writing about us as people and individuals? In short, should our subjectivity be more transparent? We look forward to discussing these questions with Jennifer V. Evans (Ottawa), Priscilla Layne (Chapel Hill, NC) and Iuliia Skubytska (Potsdam), chair: Juliane Fürst (Potsdam).

Unfortunately, Mischa Gabowitsch (Potsdam) will not be able to attend.

The talk will be held in English. Questions are welcome in German as well.

The panel discussion will kick off the ZZF Colloquium in the summer semester of 2022.
