Gender and urban popular culture in Spain, East Europe and the USSR at the beginning of the transitions (1975-1982/1989-1995)

The project research in a comparative way the way in which some European cities (Madrid, Berlin, Warsaw and Riga) came out of their respective dictatorships and elaborated a new perception of themselves through the cultural construction of a popular way of life. It focuses on the role of women in the culture field, with an central gender dimension as well as a history of feminism in popular culture.
The project aims to describe in a comparative way the ways in which the new culture emerging from the dictatorship was constructed in some specific societies over time. The aim is also to explore the persistence and legacies of the dictatorship on the urban cultures of these European cities. The focus will be on the transformation of the role of women over the years and in the Europeanization/globlization of the urban culture of the former dictatorships.

Geschlecht und urbane Populärkultur in Spanien, Osteuropa und der UdSSR zu Beginn der Transformation (1975-1982/1989-1995)

Das Projekt untersucht vergleichend die Art und Weise, wie einige europäische Städte (Madrid, Berlin, Warschau und Riga) ihre jeweiligen Diktaturen hinter sich ließen und durch die kulturelle Konstruktion eines populären Lebensstils ein neues Selbstverständnis erarbeiteten. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Rolle der Frauen im Kulturbereich, wobei die Geschlechterdimension und die Geschichte des Feminismus in der Populärkultur eine zentrale Rolle spielen.
Das Projekt zielt darauf ab, in vergleichender Weise zu beschreiben, wie die neue Kultur, die aus der Diktatur hervorging, in einigen spezifischen Gesellschaften im Laufe der Zeit aufgebaut wurde. Ziel ist es zudem, das Fortbestehen und die Hinterlassenschaften der Diktatur in den städtischen Kulturen dieser europäischen Städte zu untersuchen. Der Schwerpunkt liegt dabei auf dem Wandel der Rolle der Frau im Laufe der Jahre und der Europäisierung/Globalisierung der städtischen Kultur der ehemaligen Diktaturen.
